November in Gran Canaria

Chtěli jsme strávit listopad v teple a přemýšleli, kde se dostaneme přímým letem, relativně rychle, je tam toho hodně k vidění a zároveň nemusíme jezdit velké vzdálenosti, abychom tato místa viděli. Gran Canaria byla skvělá volba. Teplá voda na koupání, bezpečno, čisto a krásné písečné pláže, kde se náš 10 měsíční syn učil chodit. Navíc ostrov je neskutečně různorodý – krásné treky v horách, výhledy na moře ze skalnatých útesů, písečné duny, sopečné krátery, útulná města, banánové plantáže a spousta dalšího!

We wanted to spend November in a warm place and wondered where we could get to with a direct flight, relatively quickly, where is a lot to see and at the same time we don’t have to drive long distances to see these places. Gran Canaria was a great choice. Warm water for swimming, safe, clean and beautiful sandy beaches where our 10 month old son was learning to walk. In addition, the island is incredibly diverse – beautiful trails in the mountains, sea views from rocky cliffs, sand dunes, volcanic craters, cozy towns, banana plantations and much more!

  10. Projděte se v Montaña de Las Tierras a ochutnejte místní kuchyni v restauracích ukrytých ve skalách.
  11. Navštivte banánovou plantáž Mundo del Platáno či plantáž na aloe vera Finca Canarias Aloe Vera Fataga a zastavujte po cestě na úchvatných vyhlídkách.

What to see

  1. Take a walk along trails with beautiful views of the sea and relax on sandy beaches on the southern part of the island.
  2. Hike in the mountains in the center of the island (Pico de las Nieves – Roque Nublo trail).
  3. Walk around the Caldera de Bandama crater.
  4. Stroll through the dunes in Maspalomas.
  5. Drive along the western coast – pass the colorful rocks of Los Azulejos de Veneguera, take a walk to Gui Gui beach, or stop at the viewpoint Mirador del Balcón.
  6. Spend a day in the most beautiful town on the island, Mogán.
  7. Visit the towns in the north of the island – Puerto de las Nieves, Galdár, Firgas, Teror, Arucas.
  8. Visit Las Palomas, walk around the beach, explore the historic center, or visit the viewpoint in the northern part of the town.
  9. Don’t miss the Poema del Mar aquarium.
  10. Take a walk in Montaña de Las Tierras and taste local cuisine in restaurants hidden in the rocks.
  11. Visit the banana plantation Mundo del Platáno or the aloe vera plantation Finca Canarias Aloe Vera Fataga and stop at breathtaking viewpoints along the way.

V bodech:

  • Pokud chcete jet na delší dobu jako my, rezervujte si ubytování i auto hodně předem. V listopadu jsou ceny poměrně vysoké.
  • Autosedačku pro děti nabízí autopůjčovny většinou zdarma.
  • Počítejte s mnohem vyššími výdaji za jídlo – nejen restaurace, ale i jídlo v supermarketu je zde poměrně drahé (utratili jsme za jídlo za měsíc 3x tolik, co u nás).
  • Pobřeží Gran Canaria je velmi kopcovité. Pokud se chcete ubytovat na jihu ostrova u bílých písečných pláží jako my, hledejte ubytování, co nejblíže vodě. Jinak budete chodit do pořádného kopce, což s kočárkem a spoustou věcí není žádná sranda.
  • Za nás asi 2 nejlepší místa, kde se ubytovat je město Mogán nebo Anfi del Mar.
  • Stačí se ubytovat na jednom místě a využít tak nižší cenu za delší pobyt. Výlety autem lze zvládnout pohodlně z jednoho výchozího místa.
  • Na Gran Canaria je spousta krásných dětských hřišť.
  • Voda je zde pitná, ale místní ji kvůli chlórové chuti nepijí.
  • Anglicky a německy se domluvíte všude.
  • Množství a velikost hotelových komplexů (zejména na jihu) vás možná stejně jako nás překvapí. V mnohých případech tyto monstrózní komplexy doslova hyzdí jinak krásné pobřeží. Nakonec jsme si však zvykli.

In points:

  • If you plan to stay for a longer period like we did, book your accommodation and car rental well in advance. Prices in November are quite high.
  • Car rental agencies usually offer child car seats for free.
  • Expect much higher food expenses – not just at restaurants, but even supermarket food is relatively expensive here (we spent three times more on food in a month than we do at home).
  • The coastline of Gran Canaria is very hilly. If you want to stay on the southern part of the island near the white sandy beaches like we did, look for accommodation as close to the water as possible. Otherwise, you’ll have to walk up quite a steep hill, which isn’t fun with a stroller and lots of stuff.
  • In our opinion, the two best places to stay are the towns of Mogán or Anfi del Mar.
  • It’s enough to stay in one place and enjoy a lower price for a longer stay. Car trips can easily be done from a single starting point.
  • Gran Canaria has plenty of beautiful playgrounds for kids.
  • The water here is drinkable, but locals don’t drink it because of the chlorine taste.
  • You can communicate in English and German almost everywhere.
  • The number and size of hotel complexes (especially in the south) may surprise you, just like it did us. In many cases, these monstrous complexes literally make an otherwise beautiful coastline ugly. However, in the end, we got used to it.

Jih – pláže a nejkrásnější pěší trasy kolem pobřeží

Jih ostrova Gran Canaria je známý svými nádhernými plážemi s jemným bílým pískem a průzračně modrým mořem, které jsou ideální pro relaxaci. Kromě odpočinku na slunci nabízí tento region i skvělé pěší trasy, které vás provedou podél útesů a skvostných výhledů na oceán. Mezi nejkrásnější místa patří pláž Anfi del Mar s bílým pískem a palmami, ideální pro rodinný odpočinek a pláž Amadores. Z Puerto Rica pak vede krásný trasa kolem pobřeží až na pláž Amadores. Samotná pláž Amadores (na fotce níže) nás však neoslovila. Byla plná lidí a hned za pláží je spousta restaurací a obchodů, které působí jako nehezké tržiště.

South – Beaches and the most beautiful trails along the coastline

The south of Gran Canaria is known for its beautiful beaches with soft white sand and crystal-clear blue waters, making it ideal for relaxation. In addition to sunbathing, this region also offers great trails that take you along cliffs and provide stunning ocean views. Some of the most beautiful spots include Anfi del Mar beach with its white sand and palm trees, perfect for a family getaway, and Amadores beach. From Puerto Rico, there is a lovely coastal trail leading to Amadores beach. However, the beach itself (shown in the photo below) didn’t appeal to us. It was crowded, and right behind the beach, there were many restaurants and shops that gave off the vibe of an unattractive marketplace.

Další krásná trasa kolem pobřeží vede z Anfi del Mar do Arneguine. Po cestě projdete i přes několik dalších pláží a také vyhlášených restaurací a barů. Příjemná restaurace na snídani, oběd, ale i večeři je například B-One Costa Alegre, která je umístěná na molu a máte z ní tak výhled na oceán ze všech stran.

Another beautiful coastal trail goes from Anfi del Mar to Arguineguín. Along the way, you’ll pass several other beaches as well as famous restaurants and bars. A nice restaurant for breakfast, lunch, or even dinner is B-One Costa Alegre, which is located on a pier, offering ocean views from all sides.

Nejkrásnější a nejpříjemnější pláž je za nás určitě Anfi del Mar. Na pláži jsou postavené i beach volejbalová hřiště a celkově pláž působí velmi útulně a příjemně. Pláž je uměle vytvořená, nejsou zde vlny a je tak vhodná i pro nejmenší děti. Je zde také ostrov s palmami a příjemnou restaurací, kde se můžete projít či si užít chvíli klidu na venkovních sedačkách a dát si jejich perfektní mangové smoothie. Je zde možnost ubytování ve velkém rezortu, který na rozdíl od ostatních tolik nehyzdí pobřeží a zapadá do hornatého reliéfu. Pokud budete ubytovaní jinde, dá se zaparkovat na přilehlém parkovišti za poplatek či na ulici zdarma.

The most beautiful and pleasant beach for us is definitely Anfi del Mar. The beach has beach volleyball courts, and overall, it feels very cozy and pleasant. The beach is man-made, there are no waves, making it ideal even for small children. There is also an island with palm trees and a lovely restaurant where you can take a walk or enjoy a moment of peace on the outdoor seating while sipping their perfect mango smoothie. There is the option to stay at a large resort, which, unlike others, doesn’t make the coastline ugly and instead blends into the mountainous terrain. If you’re staying elsewhere, you can park at the nearby parking lot for a fee or on the street for free.

Střed ostrova – Roque Nublo a okolí

Střed ostrova Gran Canaria je skvostnou oblastí, která ukrývá některé z nejkrásnějších přírodních scenérií. Zelené hory, úchvatná údolí a malebné vesničky vás zavedou do srdce ostrova, kde můžete zažít autentickou atmosféru kanárského života. Můžete vyjet autem až na nejvyšší bod ostrova Pico del Nieves a užít si nádherný výhled na ikonickou skálu Roque Nublo.

Center of the island – Roque Nublo and its surroundings

The center of Gran Canaria is a stunning area that hides some of the island’s most beautiful natural landscapes. Green mountains, breathtaking valleys, and picturesque villages lead you to the heart of the island, where you can experience the authentic atmosphere of Canarian life. You can drive up to the highest point of the island, Pico del Nieves, and enjoy a magnificent view of the iconic Roque Nublo rock.

Z Pico del Nieves se můžete přesunout autem a vyjít si na jedno z nejikoničtějších míst na Gran Canarii – na majestátní skalní útvar Roque Nublo (jeďte brzy, parkovacích míst je zde opravdu málo). Já však doporučuji jít přímo z Pico del Nieves na Roque Nublo pěšky (zde s parkováním není problém). Tato trasa nabízí nádherné panoramatické výhledy na okolní hory a údolí a vede vás podél lesních cest a skalnatých stezek až k Roque Nublo. Cesta je středně náročná, ale odměnou je úchvatný výhled na celý ostrov.

From Pico del Nieves, you can drive and hike to one of the most iconic spots in Gran Canaria – the majestic rock formation of Roque Nublo (but be sure to go early, as parking spots are very limited). However, I recommend walking directly from Pico del Nieves to Roque Nublo (parking is not an issue here). This trail offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, guiding you along forest paths and rocky trails to reach Roque Nublo. The route is moderately challenging, but the reward is a breathtaking view of the entire island.

Caldera de Bandama – viewpoint a trail

Trek kolem kráteru Caldera de Bandama na Gran Canarii nabízí jedinečný pohled na jednu z nejzajímavějších přírodních formací ostrova. Trasa o délce přibližně 5 kilometrů vede kolem obřího kráteru, jehož stěny dosahují výšky až 200 metrů. Na nejvyšší bod kráteru můžete vyjet autem a užít si výhled na celý kráter a golfové hřiště na jeho úpatí. Z trasy se otevírají nádherné výhledy na okolní krajinu, zelené údolí, malebné vesničky a oceán. Cestou můžete také obdivovat opravdu rozmanitou flóru. Parkování je k dispozici zdarma kolem cesty či na parkovišti u golfového hřiště.

Caldera de Bandama – viewpoint and trail

The trek around the Caldera de Bandama crater on Gran Canaria offers a unique view of one of the island’s most fascinating natural formations. The 5-kilometer trail takes you around the massive crater, with walls reaching up to 200 meters in height. You can drive to the highest point of the crater and enjoy views of the entire crater and the golf course at its base. The trail offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape, green valleys, picturesque villages, and the ocean. Along the way, you can also admire a truly diverse flora. Free parking is available along the road or at the parking lot near the golf course.

Dunas de Maspalomas

Dunas de Maspalomas je jedním z nejikoničtějších míst Gran Canarie, kde se setkávají nádherné písečné duny s modrým oceánem. Tato rozsáhlá písečná oblast, která připomíná malou poušť, nabízí fascinující výhledy. Můžete si užít klidné chvíle na pláži nebo se vydat na procházku mezi dunami, kde máte pocit, že jste na úplně jiném místě. Fotky níže jsou z dun ze severní strany. Na jihu se pak můžete projít kolem luxusních hotelů, obchodních center, kolem ikonického majáku až na rozsáhlou pláž. 

Dunas de Maspalomas

Dunas de Maspalomas is one of the most iconic spots in Gran Canaria, where the beautiful sand dunes meet the blue ocean. This vast sandy area, which resembles a small desert, offers fascinating views. You can enjoy peaceful moments on the beach or take a walk through the dunes, where you’ll feel like you’re in a completely different place. The photos below are taken from the northern side of the dunes. The southern part offers a stroll past luxury hotels, shopping centers, and the iconic lighthouse, leading to the expansive beach.

Západní pobřeží – Los Azulejos de Veneguera, Gui Gui, Mirador del Balcón

Ať už se na Gran Canarii vydáte kamkoliv, budete projíždět soutězkami v horách s nádhernými výhledy. A i samotná cesta bude cíl. Jeden z nejkrásnějších výhledů na ostrově je Mirador del Balcón – vyhlídka postavená na útesu s výhledem na skály ve tvaru pyramidy. Cestou tam budete projíždět přes barevnou skálu Los Azulejos de Veneguera a s malou zajížďkou také kolem pláže Gui Gui (lze naplánovat i zvlášť, pěší trasa zabere cca 4 – 5 hodin). K pláži musíte dojít po šotolinové trase cca 5 km po svých. Navíc je zde převýšení po cestě tam cca 400 m nahoru a 600 m dolů a poté musíte jít stejnou trasou zpět (celkem tedy 10 km a cca 1000 m převýšení nahoru a dolů). Není zde žádná možnost občerstvení, mějte tedy sebou dostatek jídla, pití i benzínu.

West coast – Los Azulejos de Veneguera, Gui Gui, Mirador del Balcón

Wherever you go on Gran Canaria, you’ll be driving through mountain ravines with breathtaking views. Even the journey itself will be a destination. One of the most beautiful viewpoints on the island is Mirador del Balcón – a viewpoint built on a cliff with a view of pyramid-shaped rocks. On the way there, you’ll pass the colorful rock formation Los Azulejos de Veneguera, and with a small detour, you can also visit Gui Gui beach (which can also be planned as a separate trip, with a hiking trail taking about 4 – 5 hours). To reach the beach, you need to walk about 5 km on a gravel trail. Additionally, the elevation gain on the way there is about 400 meters uphill and 600 meters downhill, and then you must return the same way (a total of 10 km and about 1000 meters of elevation gain and loss). There are no refreshment options, so be sure to bring plenty of food, water, and fuel.

Město Mogán

Mogán, známé jako “Malé Benátky” Gran Canarie, je malebné město, které okouzlí každého svou atmosférou. Projděte se úzkými uličkami s bílými domky pokrytými květinami až do historického centra, kde najdete přístav a malebné náměstí. Město je také proslulé svou krásnou pláží, která je ideálním místem pro relaxaci u oceánu, a také množstvím skvělých restaurací, které nabízejí tradiční kanárskou kuchyni. Mogán byl původně rybářská vesnice, proto zde určitě ochutnejte čerstvou rybu například s mangovým salátem. Pro nás byl Mogán nejkrásnější ze zdejších měst.

City of Mogán

Mogán, known as the “Little Venice” of Gran Canaria, is a picturesque town that captivates everyone with its charm. Stroll through the narrow streets lined with white houses adorned with flowers, leading to the historic center, where you’ll find the harbor and a lovely square. The town is also famous for its beautiful beach, which is the perfect spot for relaxation by the ocean, as well as its many great restaurants offering traditional Canarian cuisine. Originally a fishing village, Mogán is the ideal place to try fresh fish, perhaps with a mango salad. For us, Mogán was the most beautiful of the local towns.

Města na severu ostrova – Puerto de las Nieves, Galdár, Firgas, Teror, Arucas

Sever Gran Canarie je plný malebných měst, která nabízejí kombinaci historie, kultury a přírodní krásy. Puerto de las Nieves je kouzelný přístav známý svou rybářskou tradicí a výhledy na oceán. Galdár uchvátí svou bohatou historií a archeologickými nálezy, zatímco Firgas je proslulý svými přírodními prameny a vodopády. Teror, se svou ikonickou bazilikou, nabízí autentickou atmosféru a tradiční kanárskou architekturu. Arucas zase okouzlí nádhernou katedrálou a krásným parkem.

TIP: ve městě Galdár zajděte do restaurace Agáldar a ochutnejte tradiční kuchyni ve vnitrozemí ostrova. Projděte si i krásnou historickou budovu hotelu.

Towns in the north of the island – Puerto de las Nieves, Galdár, Firgas, Teror, Arucas

The north of Gran Canaria is full of picturesque towns that offer a mix of history, culture, and natural beauty. Puerto de las Nieves is a charming harbor known for its fishing tradition and ocean views. Galdár captivates with its rich history and archaeological findings, while Firgas is famous for its natural springs and waterfalls. Teror, with its iconic basilica, offers an authentic atmosphere and traditional Canarian architecture. Arucas enchants with its beautiful cathedral and park.

TIP: In the town of Galdár, visit the Agáldar restaurant and try the traditional cuisine from the central part of the island. Also, take a walk through the beautiful historic building of the hotel.

Las Palomas a okolí (Las Canteras Beach, Mirador Norte de Las Coloradas, Mirador Cruz del Confital, Vegueta)

Oblast kolem Las Palomas je příjemným místem, kde se mísí přírodní scenérie a historická atmosféra. Pro úchvatné panoramatické výhledy navštivte Mirador Norte de Las Coloradas a Mirador Cruz del Confital, které nabízejí nádherné pohledy na pobřeží a drsné krajinné scenérie. Pokud se chcete projít, doporučuji vydat se pěšky z Mirador Cruz del Confital směrem dolů k pláži Las Canteras. Tato trasa vás provede podél nádherných útesů a nabízí úchvatné výhledy na oceán a okolní krajinu, než dorazíte na oblíbenou pláž Las Canteras. Pláž je obrovská a je lemovaná pěší stezkou plnou restaurací, barů a obchodů. Pro nás to nebylo místo, kde bychom se chtěli chodit koupat každý den, ale za návštěvu pláž určitě stála.

Las Palomas and its surroundings (Las Canteras Beach, Mirador Norte de Las Coloradas, Mirador Cruz del Confital, Vegueta)

The area around Las Palomas is a pleasant spot where natural scenery and historical atmosphere come together. For breathtaking panoramic views, visit the Mirador Norte de Las Coloradas and Mirador Cruz del Confital, which offer stunning views of the coastline and rugged landscapes. If you’re looking for a walk, I recommend heading on foot from Mirador Cruz del Confital down to Las Canteras Beach. This route will take you along beautiful cliffs, offering magnificent views of the ocean and surrounding landscape before reaching the popular Las Canteras Beach. The beach is huge and lined with a pedestrian path full of restaurants, bars, and shops. It wasn’t the kind of place we would want to visit for a swim, but the beach was definitely worth the visit.

Vegueta je historické srdce Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, kde se mísí koloniální architektura a živá atmosféra. Procházky po dlážděných ulicích vás zavedou k impozantním památkám jako je náměstí a katedrála Santa Ana. Tato čtvrť je také domovem tradičních trhů a řady restaurací, kde si můžete vychutnat místní speciality. 

TIP: Dejte si zmrzlinu ve zmrzlinářství Dassie, je to nejlepší zmrzlina na ostrově 🙂

Vegueta is the historic heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where colonial architecture meets a vibrant atmosphere. Walking along its cobbled streets will lead you to impressive landmarks such as the Santa Ana Plaza and the Santa Ana Cathedral. This district is also home to traditional markets and a variety of restaurants where you can enjoy local specialties.

TIP: Have an ice cream at Dassie ice cream shop – it’s the best ice cream on the island! 🙂

Poema del Mar Aquarium

Poema del Mar Aquarium v Las Palmas bylo pro nás největším překvapením. Obrovské akvárium je rozdělené do tří sekcí – Amazonie, hluboký oceán a tropický oceán a každá z těchto částí je naprosto fascinující a uslyšíte “wau” snad ze všech stran. Největší atrakcí je obří stěna akvária plná žraloků, rejnoků a barevných rybek. Její velikost nás opravdu překvapila. Akvárium doporučuji přidat na váš “musím vidět” seznam.

Poema del Mar Aquarium

Poema del Mar Aquarium in Las Palmas was the biggest surprise for us. The enormous aquarium is divided into three sections – the Amazon, the deep ocean, and the tropical ocean, and each of these areas is absolutely fascinating, with “wow” moments coming from every direction. The biggest attraction is the massive aquarium wall full of sharks, rays, and colorful fish. Its size truly amazed us. I highly recommend adding the aquarium to your “must-see” list.

Montaña de Las Tierras

Montaña de Las Tierras je fascinující místo, které nabízí nejen úchvatné výhledy na vulkanickou krajinu Gran Canarie, ale také jedinečný kulinářský zážitek. Tato oblast je ideální pro pěší turistiku, kde se můžete vydat na stezky vedoucí k vrcholům a obdivovat panoramata ostrova. Po náročné túře si můžete odpočinout v jedné z místních restaurací, které jsou vytesány přímo do skály a nabízejí tradiční kanárskou kuchyni. Montaña de Las Tierras je příjemným místem daleko od davů turistů, kde můžete nasát místní atmosféru, vidět krásné výhledy, pochutnat si na dobrém jídle a přitom zažít zase něco jiného.

Montaña de Las Tierras

Montaña de Las Tierras is a fascinating place that offers not only breathtaking views of Gran Canaria’s volcanic landscape but also a unique culinary experience. This area is perfect for hiking, where you can follow trails that lead to mountain peaks and admire the island’s panoramic views. After a challenging hike, you can relax in one of the local restaurants carved directly into the rocks, serving traditional Canarian cuisine. Montaña de Las Tierras is a peaceful spot away from the crowds, where you can immerse yourself in the local atmosphere, enjoy stunning views, savor delicious food, and experience something truly different.

Ostatní – Mundo del Plátano, Mirador de Arteara, Finca Canarias Aloe Vera Fataga

Gran Canaria nabízí mnoho skrytých pokladů mimo známá místa. Mundo del Plátano je fascinující místo, kde se můžete dozvědět vše o pěstování banánů, které jsou symbolem ostrova, a projít se po bujných plantážích. Pro úchvatné výhledy navštivte Mirador de Arteara, vyhlídku, která nabízí panoramatický pohled na nádherné údolí a starobylý pohřební areál Arteara. Nezapomeňte také na Finca Canarias Aloe Vera ve Fataga, kde si můžete prohlédnout farmu aloe vera a zakoupit si jejich přírodní kosmetiku. K vidění těchto míst potřebujete jen chvilku a tak je můžete zařadit jako kratší zastávky po cestě.

Other – Mundo del Plátano, Mirador de Arteara, Finca Canarias Aloe Vera Fataga

Gran Canaria offers many hidden gems beyond the well-known spots. Mundo del Plátano is a fascinating place where you can learn all about banana cultivation, which is a symbol of the island, and take a stroll through lush plantations. For stunning views, visit Mirador de Arteara, a viewpoint offering a panoramic view of the beautiful valley and the ancient burial site of Arteara. Don’t forget to stop by Finca Canarias Aloe Vera in Fataga, where you can explore the aloe vera farm and purchase their natural cosmetics. These spots are quick to visit, making them perfect for shorter stops along the way.

Gran Canaria v listopadu je skvělou volbou pro ty, kteří hledají únik před zimním chladem a chtějí prozkoumat krásy ostrova v poklidnějších měsících. Příjemné počasí, méně turistů a rozmanité přírodní scenérie dělají tento čas ideální pro pěší túry, relaxaci na pláži nebo objevování místní kultury a gastronomie.
