Máte jen pár dní a přemýšlíte, kam vyrazit? Vyrazte autem do Belgie a Lucemburska! Čekají vás historická města, hrady, zámky, moře a malebný venkov. Ovšem nebude to jen pastva pro oči, ale i něco pro vaše chuťové buňky. Ochutnáte belgickou čokoládu, belgické pivo, ryby a mořské plody, vafle, hranolky či moselské víno.
Do you have only a few days and are wondering where to go? Go by car to Belgium and Luxembourg! Historic towns, castles and chateaus, the sea and picturesque countryside are awaiting you. It will not only be a feast for the eyes, but also something for your taste buds. You’ll taste Belgian chocolate, Belgian beer, fish and seafood, waffles, chips and Mosel wine.
Bruggy
Bruggy byly na mém bucket listu dlouho a musím říct, že přesto, že se jedná o hodně turistické místo, má očekávání město naplnilo. Kdybych měla město popsat jednou větou, tak si vybavím – vodní kanály lemované cihlovými domy obklopené zelení, vůně čerstvých vaflí a čokoláda, kam se člověk podívá. Nezní to božsky?
Na mapu si stačí dát pár hlavních bodů a jenom se procházet uličkami. Já měla na seznamu Sint-Salvatorskathedraal, Belfry of Brugges, Basilica of the Holy Blood, City Hall, Burg Square, Lovers Bridge, Viewpoint Passage Bourgondisch Cruyce, Rosary Quay, Diamond Museum a Windmill the New Parrot.
Pokud máte rádi čokoládu, tak tu v Bruggách musíte ochutnat. Za mě nejlepší jsou čokoládovny The Chocolate Line, Chocolatier Dumon (mají i čokoládu bez cukru slazenou stévií), V-Chocolatier a The Old Chocolate House. Pokud chcete zkusit belgické vafle, jděte do vyhlášeného Waff Atelier Otto. Za doporučení také stojí bistro That´s Toast, kde si můžete dát skvělou snídani, brunch či oběd.
TIP: Zaparkujte zdarma na ulici Bevrijdingslaan a dojděte do města 15 minut pěšky. V historickém centru se nejen platí drahé parkovné, ale je zde možné parkovat jen 4 hodiny.
Brugge
Bruges has been on my bucket list for a long time and I have to say that despite being a very touristy place, the city lived up to my expectations. If I had to describe the city in one sentence, I would think of – water canals lined with brick houses surrounded by greenery, the smell of fresh waffles and chocolate everywhere you look. Doesn’t that sound divine?
Put a few highlights on your map and just wander the streets. I had Sint-Salvatorskathedraal, Belfry of Bruges, Basilica of the Holy Blood, City Hall, Burg Square, Lovers Bridge, Viewpoint Passage Bourgondisch Cruyce, Rosary Quay, Diamond Museum and Windmill the New Parrot on my list.
If you like chocolate, you must try it in Bruges. For me, the best chocolate shops are The Chocolate Line, Chocolatier Dumon (they also have sugar-free chocolate sweetened with stevia), V-Chocolatier and The Old Chocolate House. If you want to try Belgian waffles, go to the renowned Waff Atelier Otto. Also worth recommending is That’s Toast bistro, where you can have a great breakfast, brunch or lunch.
TIP: Park for free on Bevrijdingslaan street and walk 15 minutes into town. Not only is parking in the historic centre expensive, but you can only park there for 4 hours.
Oostende
Široké pláže, slunce, ale také ledový vítr. Staré přímořské letovisko krásou určitě neodpovídá městům v Normandii, ale je zajímavé vidět, jak se zde žije mimo turistický ruch. Můžete ochutnat místní specialitu krevety v rajčeti, čerstvé ryby, sushi či navštívit místní vyhlášený pivní bar Cafe Botteltje. Jejich výběr piva vypadá jak hodně tlusté vydání hospodářských novin. Pozor si snad dejte jen na to, že belgická piva jsou velmi silná 7-11 % alkoholu. Pivo kolem 5 – 6 % najdete jen zřídka.
Oostende
Wide beaches, sunshine, but also icy wind. The beauty of the old seaside resort is certainly not on a par with the cities of Normandy, but it is interesting to see how life is going here outside the tourist industry. You can try the local speciality of prawns in tomato, fresh fish, sushi or visit the local famous beer bar Cafe Botteltje. Their beer selection looks like a very thick edition of an economic newspaper. Just beware that Belgian beers are very strong at 7-11% alcohol. You’ll rarely find beers around 5-6%.
Ghent
Do centra vejděte po mostě Saint Michael. Pří pohledu na kamenné věže a historické domy a hrady vám zaručeně spadne brada. Hned ráno si kupte lístek a jděte se podívat nahoru do věže Het Belfort van Gent (jinak se zde tvoří fronty na výtah a to i v úzkých chodbičkách nahoře na věži). Výhled na město stojí za to. Hned vidíte, kam se musíte jít ještě podívat – katedrála svatého Bavona (nakoukněte i dovnitř), City hall, Stadshal, kostel Saint Nicholas, Toreken, Patershol, Gravensteen, Korenlei.
TIP: Zaparkujte zdarma na parkovišti P + R Muide, kde jede tramvaj přímo do centra – za 15 min jste tam.
Ghent
Enter the city centre via the Saint Michael Bridge. The view of the stone towers and historic houses and castles is guaranteed to make your chin drop. Buy a ticket first thing in the morning and go up to the Het Belfort van Gent tower (otherwise there are queues for the lift, even in the narrow corridors at the top of the tower). The view of the city is worth it. You can immediately see where you need to go next – St Bavon’s Cathedral (take a peek inside too), City Hall, Stadshal, Saint Nicholas Church, Toreken, Patershol, Gravensteen, Korenlei.
TIP: Park for free at the P+R Muide car park, where the tram goes directly to the centre – you’re there in 15 mins.
Brusel
V Bruselu doporučuju zaparkovat zdarma na parkovišti Antwerpselaan Parking a jít pěšky 15 minut k Atomiu. Pokud chcete jít dovnitř, jděte hned ráno (kupte si lístky online i několik dní předem). Navštívit zde můžete i park Mini Europe, který je hned vedle a najdete zde nejznámější evropské stavby ve zmenšené podobě. Metrem jste pak od Atomia za 20 minut v centru.
V centru se určitě jděte podívat na hlavní náměstí Grand Palace a projděte se okolními uličkami. Pokud chcete, můžete dojít k soše čůrajícího panáčka, kde však narazíte na šílený dav lidí (za mě lze vynechat).
Co však nevynechejte je procházka v Jardin du Mont des Arts, Galerie de la Reine, St Michael a Gudula Cathedral, Parc de Bruxelles a Palais de Bruxelles, Palais de Justice, Evropský parlament a vedlejší Leopold park. Od parlamentu vám pak jede metro číslo 6 zpět k Atomiu.
TIP: ochutnejte bruselské vafle v Le Roi de la Gaufre a belgické hranolky hned vedle v Rotisserie Bio.
Brussels
In Brussels, I recommend parking for free at Antwerpselaan Parking and walking 15 minutes to the Atomium. If you want to go in, go first thing in the morning (buy your tickets online even a few days in advance). You can also visit the Mini Europe park which is right next to Atomium and features some of Europe’s most famous buildings in miniature. The metro from the Atomium then takes you to the centre of the city in 20 minutes.
In the centre, be sure to go to the main square, the Grand Palace, and wander the surrounding streets. If you want, you can walk to the statue of the Manneken Pis, but you will encounter a crowd of people (as for me, you can skip it).
What you shouldn’t skip, however, is a walk in the Jardin du Mont des Arts, Galerie de la Reine, St Michael and Gudula Cathedral, Parc de Bruxelles and Palais de Bruxelles, Palais de Justice, the European Parliament and the adjacent Leopold Park. From the Parliament you can then take the metro number 6 back to the Atomium.
TIP: Try the Brussels waffles at Le Roi de la Gaufre and the Belgian fries next door at Rotisserie Bio.
Habay la Neuve
V rámci roadtripu jsme se přesunuli blíže Lucemburku do Hôtel Les Ardillières du Pont d’Oye. Můžete se projít po rašeliništích a kolem jezer až k zámku. Večeři si dejte v restauraci v Les Plats Canailles de la Bleue Maison edle hotelu. Jídlo je připraveno z lokálních a sezónních surovin a je pravým kulinářským zážitkem.
Habay la Neuve
As part of the roadtrip we moved closer to Luxembourg to Hôtel Les Ardillières du Pont d’Oye. You can walk on a peat bog and around lakes to the chateau. Have dinner at the restaurant Les Plats Canailles de la Bleue Maison next to the hotel. The food is made with local and seasonal ingredients and is a true culinary experience.
Lucemburk
V Lucemburku je všechno blízko – historie, výhledy, příroda, obchody i restaurace. Zaparkujte na parkovišti blízko centra na 5-9 Plt Altmuenster. Neděle a svátky je parkování zdarma, jinak se platí 1 Euro za hodinu. Jděte se podívat do centra k Place Guillaume II, katedrále Notredam, přejděte přes most Pont Adolphe a sejděte dolů kolem kostela Eglise du Sacre-Coeur na městskou promenádu. Pokračujte po ulici Rue Saint Ulric a Rue Plaetis do zahrad a Casemenates du Boch. Přejděte most přes řeku a projděte se kolem řeky touto krásnou čtvrtí. Jděte se také podívat na pevnost Fort Thungen. Je odsud krásný výhled na město. Hezká je i čtvrt Elausen, kde je spousta barů, restaurací a také naše parkoviště. Na prohlídku města nám stačily 3 hodiny.
Na oběd jsme se vydali o kousek dále k hranicím s Německem do městečka Remich, které leží na řece Mosel známé svými vynikajícími víny. Vinic je zde spousta a to jak na německé, tak na lucemburské straně. Zkuste místní Riesling či perlivé víno Cremant.
Luxembourg
In Luxembourg, everything is close by – history, views, nature, shops and restaurants. Park in the car park near the centre at 5-9 Plt Altmuenster. Parking is free on Sundays and public holidays, otherwise you pay 1 Euro per hour. Walk downtown to Place Guillaume II, Notredam Cathedral, cross Pont Adolphe bridge and walk down past the Eglise du Sacre-Coeur church to the city promenade. Continue along Rue Saint Ulric and Rue Plaetis to the gardens and Casemenates du Boch. Cross the bridge over the river and walk around the river through this beautiful neighbourhood. Go also to see the Fort Thungen. There is a beautiful view of the city. The Elausen district is also nice. There are lots of bars, restaurants and also our car park. It took us 3 hours to see the city.
For lunch we went a little further to the German border to Remich, a town on the Mosel River known for its excellent wines. There are plenty of vineyards both on the German and Luxembourg side. Try the local Riesling or the sparkling wine Cremant.
Belgie i Lucembursko určitě stojí za návštěvu. Nemusíte sem jezdit na týden, stačí vám prodloužený víkend. Uvidíte spoustu krásných míst a ochutnáte spoustu dobrého jídla a pití. Není třeba mít přesný program, prostě se procházejte uličkami a jděte tou, která se vám zrovna nejvíce líbí a uvidíte, kam vás zavede.
Both Belgium and Luxembourg are definitely worth a visit. You don’t have to come for a week, just a long weekend. You’ll see lots of beautiful places and taste lots of good food and drink. There’s no need to have a strict plan, just wander the streets and take the one you like best and see where it takes you.
